What About Them?

Hey, what can I say
if they won't listen?
Let's talk about today.
It's our business.

I can't change their minds
(even if I try).
How can I make them see the light
(if it doesn't shine)?
I'm about myself and what's mine.
Forget about the rest of mankind.

But what about them?
They're hanging on the end of a limb.
How cruel we've all been.
What message are we trying to send?
Think about the children.
(Their chances are growing slim.)
What about them?

They're growing so
before my eyes.
I don't want to let go,
but soon you'll have to realize.

That
You can't start a fire
(without a flame).
If it doesn't have a desire
(it'll stay the same)
And you aren't the one to blame.
And you aren't the one to be shamed.

But what about them?
They're hanging on the end of a limb.
How cruel we've all been.
What message are we trying to send?
(Their chances are growing slim.)
What about them?

And what else is there to say?
What else can I do today?
This is a dangerous game we're trying to play.
We're lost in the dark and don't know our way.
